PCR and microscopy stool test for parasites, ova, cysts and Helicobacter pylori
PCR and microscopy of stool sample for parasites, ova and cysts, including Helicobacter pylori stool antigen testing

Stool Infection Assay — Molecular and Microscopic Testing

This stool infection panel provides molecular PCR testing alongside microscopy examination for ova, cysts and parasites, combined with Helicobacter pylori stool antigen testing. Together, these methods provide a thorough assessment of common gastrointestinal infections from a single stool sample.

This test can be completed remotely from home. After payment, you will receive a stool collection pot by post.

🔬

PCR Molecular Testing

Identifies parasite DNA with high sensitivity — detects infection even at low levels not visible by microscopy alone.

🔎

Microscopy

Direct microscopic examination of stool for ova, cysts and parasite stages not targeted by PCR panels.

H. pylori Antigen Test

Stool antigen testing detects active H. pylori infection. Validated for both initial diagnosis and post-treatment confirmation.

🏠

Test from Home

A postal collection kit is sent directly to you. No clinic visit required for sample collection.

Stool Antigen Test — Important Distinction

Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori)

H. pylori is detected using a stool antigen test (SAT) rather than PCR. This method identifies active infection by detecting H. pylori proteins shed directly in the stool, and is the preferred non-invasive method recommended under NICE and Maastricht guidelines.

  • Confirms active infection (unlike blood antibody tests, which can remain positive after eradication)
  • Sensitivity and specificity exceeding 95%
  • Suitable for both initial diagnosis and test of cure after treatment
  • H. pylori is a Group 1 carcinogen and the leading cause of peptic ulcer disease — eradication is strongly recommended if detected

📋 Ordering Information — Important

This test must be ordered on its own. Please do not add any other tests in the same checkout transaction, as this can cause processing errors with the laboratory.

Please note: This test is intended for patients aged 18 and over unless otherwise advised. Results should be interpreted in the context of your clinical history by a qualified healthcare professional. A positive result does not constitute a diagnosis in isolation. If you are experiencing severe symptoms such as bloody stools, vomiting blood, high fever or significant unintentional weight loss, please seek urgent medical attention rather than waiting for test results.
