Step-by-step home allergy test kit collection
How home allergy testing works

How it Works

Ordering an allergy test is simple, and the process is the same wherever you live in the UK. Once you’ve paid, you’ll receive an email with full details and a blood-testing kit will be posted out to you.

  • Add the tests you need to your basket – the comprehensive ALEX³ screening test (up to 300 allergens) or individual allergen tests.

  • Proceed to checkout and enter the patient’s details. Payment is by credit or debit card at the end of this process.

  • A sample-collection kit is sent to you with full instructions. It’s designed for easy self-collection from a simple finger prick at home, and online remote tests are offered at a discounted price compared with face-to-face testing. If you’d prefer your sample taken in our London clinic, or need any alternative arrangement, please contact our customer support team.

  • Return your sample to our accredited laboratory in the prepaid packaging. Your laboratory results are typically ready within 7–10 working days. A specialist allergy consultant review and consultation can be added for an additional fee if you’d like your results interpreted and discussed in detail.

Sample collection is quick and easy using the simple finger-prick method – watch the short video instructions below. No fasting is needed, and antihistamines do not affect your results.

Why the ALEX³ Test is the Best Choice

The ALEX³ test delivers a large amount of allergen-specific IgE information – the big picture – in a single step. This means fewer separate investigations, saving time and resources. As a result, effective, optimised management can begin sooner, which in turn leads to improved health and quality of life.

ALEX³ (Allergy Explorer) is a blood test that uses molecular multiplex technology to measure specific IgE antibodies to both food and airborne allergens. It tests allergen extracts and individual molecular components at the same time, from just a few microlitres of blood. The panel is pre-selected to include the most clinically relevant species-specific and cross-reactive markers, and includes a built-in blocker for cross-reactive carbohydrate determinants (CCDs) to improve accuracy.

By combining innovative biochip technology with cutting-edge molecular allergology, ALEX³ is one of the most advanced in-vitro diagnostic tests available for the simultaneous measurement of specific IgE antibodies across a broad spectrum of allergen components – up to 300 in a single test. Component-resolved testing can also help distinguish a genuine primary allergy from harmless cross-reactivity, which is particularly useful when planning treatment such as immunotherapy.

Order Process

It takes just under 10 minutes to complete the questionnaire. Once you’ve paid the £295 fee for the ALEX³ test via our secure Worldpay system, your testing kit is sent out with full instructions. Tests ordered online for remote, self-collected sampling are offered at a discounted price compared with face-to-face testing in our London clinic. This fee covers laboratory analysis and your results report; a specialist consultant review and consultation is available separately for an additional fee if you’d like your results explained and discussed in detail. For children, a parent or guardian can collect the sample at home if they feel confident doing so; otherwise we recommend it is taken by a trained healthcare professional. Samples can also be collected at our London clinic for an additional fee.

Wonderful! No one else in 20 years has ever found what I am allergic to. Thank you.

Patient S, age 31-45

Dr Rudenko is a world-renowned allergy and immunology specialist who provides outstanding advice and guidance for parents going through the heartache of multiple food allergies. His calm and educational approach left us close to tears after finally having answers to so many questions. My son has dozens of food and environmental sensitivities, intolerances and a number of life-threatening food allergies, plus numerous environmental issues that seemed near impossible to pinpoint. In my opinion the London Allergy Clinic is an exceptional centre of excellence.
